Commodity Mobile Manipulators (MM) are a key technology for research, education, and application development in personal robotics. An integrated MM with adequate performance can support future markets in healthcare, logistics and supply chain support, remote exploration, and telerobotics [NSF/NASA Workshop on Autonomous Mobile Manipulation]. digitROBOTICS, LLC is designing mobile manipulators to serve this community. In a collaboration with the Laboratory for Perceptual Robotics (LPR) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a prototype platform (the uBot-5) was created---it balances on two wheels like a Segway Human Transporter (HT) and is capable of whole-body mobility and manipulation. digitROBOTICS, LLC is organized to transfer this concept into applications and to partner with clients to engineer new solutions to mobile manipulation problems. |
